ISU AAS will participate in two volunteer projects this semester: Reggie’s Sleepout and CyBuild. More information about both events can be found below. To RSVP please see the Facebook events Reggie’s Sleepout and CyBuild or email isuaas at gmail.
Reggie’s Sleepout is a very special event that aims to raise money and awareness for homeless youth in Central Iowa. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames is one of many teams collecting donations and spending the night under the stars at Drake Stadium, and AAS members will join them in supporting this worthy cause. To register for the sleepout, please visit the official Reggie’s Sleepout website, and join the UU team. For more information on this event, or to sponsor an AAS member, please contact Rebecca Boss rboss at iastate.edu.
Reggie’s Sleepout begins at 7pm on Friday November 14th and goes until 7am on the 15th. Registration begins at 3pm. Throughout the night, there will be food, games, music and even an contest for the best cardboard dwelling. All proceeds benefit Iowa Homeless Youth Centers and The Des Moines Area Religious Council.
CyBuild was created by students at Iowa State in response to the devastating natural disasters the struck Iowa this past summer. New Hartford, about 1.5 hours drive away from Ames, was badly damaged. Volunteers assist with replacing drywall. No construction skills are necessary, as skilled crew leaders will be there to teach. This event will be on Saturday November 22. This post will be edited as more details are known.
