Welcome to our new members who found us even before Clubfest (we’re now up to 280 people on the mailing list)! And thanks to everyone who came to the AAS meeting tonight!
We had some great discussions about the activities we’ll do this semester. A summary will be posted soon. The biggest change is that we’re switching back to weekly meetings and we’re planing to have more social activities on different nights. So, be sure to frequently check the Calendar (or subscribe via iCal). We’ll also have reminders of events on our twitter account @tweathen.
The first such social activity is on Friday Aug 28. We’ll meet at Jeff’s Pizza 2402 Lincoln Way from 6-7:30pm for dinner and drinks, then head over to Stephen’s Auditorium at 7:30pm to see Wyatt Cenac from the Daily Show (Facebook event for the show).
We have our 1st outreach activity “Ask an Atheist” planned for Sept 1-2 from 11am-1pm in the Free Speech Area between the Library and the Hub (Facebook event). We’ll set up a table under our AAS banner with a sign for people to “Ask an Atheist”. The goal is to show students that we AAS members are friendly and approachable, and will give people an opportunity to ask us about atheism, secularism, etc. We’ll hand out candy and AAS business cards. If you are comfortable with the idea, feel free to bring a “Hug an Atheist” sign. We’ll also have books available for trade, with a sign explaining the “Fiction for Fiction” idea. Please comment at the event with what times you can be there – we need at least 2 people at all times. We need people to setup at 10:30am and cleanup from 1-1:30. I probably don’t have to say it, but if you plan to attend, please stay positive and respectful at all times.
Finally, don’t forget about Sunday Brunch at 11am this Sunday Aug 30 at the Cafe in Somerset. RSVP at the Facebook event so we can get a big enough table.
